Our Services

Xcite Steps was founded in 2005 by Stefan Hochfilzer and Matthew Winkley to support, enrich and empower children and teens in San Diego who have it harder than the average child due to a developmental or cognitive disability and give them the personalized attention, encouragement, skills and emotional support to succeed.

Furthering academic, social or physical development, enjoying recreational activities, exercising and having the company of friends are all important to a child’s psyche. A child or teen experiencing challenges may have a harder time establishing and managing these needs and a mentor can provide the structured and balanced approach to make after school and weekend hours both productive, social and fun.
Our Approach

All our services are tailored to each individual child or teen using a big brother/big sister model to assist them through their struggles. The role that the “cool” mentor plays enables them to reach participants on a different level than parents, therapists, and educators and coax an overall maturation.
Filling the Gap

For children or teens who need extra support from therapists, psychiatrists, and/or other professionals, our services can assist in reinforcing learned concepts on a more consistent, day-to-day basis. Our mentors track development and can work together with these professionals to support the participant in a cohesive manner.
Measuring Success

A personalized Achievement Plan is constructed for every child or teen with input from all concerned parties, which may include, parents, the child, therapists, and teachers. After every session the mentor documents the participant’s progress and makes suggestions and improvements. These Performance Tracking Sheets are sent to the parents every two weeks and the Achievement Plan is re-evaluated every three months.
